Stand in closest door frame for protection (door frames last longer than walls)

Should the quake last longer grab a blanket and leave the house.

Vehicle

During strong quakes get away from objects that can topple down / collapse (e.g. walls, buildings, trees, etc.). Where possible try to reach an open area or at least stand near smaller buildings.

In the car stay in driver-cab (roll-over protection)

Check the house for severe damage and only enter if it is save to do so.

Check car for damage.

Floodwaves

Out-Bush: Leave ocean beach instantly and look for higher level ground. Flood waves may hit the beach hours after the quake and could emerge totally invisible since the may approach under water.

Listen to the radio and be alert for Tsunami warnings.
